Hello Everyone!
So I just finished exercising my arm, which I haven't done in a while....It can be really hard to exercise on your own especially when you are out of Physical Therapy like me. When you're not going once a week to the gym you tend to lack motivation because no one is forcing you to work out. But keeping the arm active is really important because not using it makes your muscles tight. I don't know how many of you guys have seen this on the UBPN page http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL728D7A1CF45E38CC but it's a young girl who is a gymnast and cheerleader; and she has never had a surgery. That's amazing that she can put so much pressure on her arm, I know I can't. I remember once when I as maybe 8 I was at a park with my family, and I went on the monkey bars..well I hung there for about 2 seconds and fell because it hurt my arm too much. Her constant work out on the arm from such a young age I'm sure did wonders.
Sooo, I think it's time for all of us terribly lazy people to get off your butts! Hehe. So to help with motivation and time management in our BUSY lives we need some tips!
1. Have a coach! Well or your mom or dad, sister, brother, friend who ever you want to do them with or at least watch you do them to make sure you're exercising correctly and not slacking off. I know for me a lot of my home therapy exercises NEED a partner to do them with.
2. Listen to music. I think this helps a lot with me, especially while on the treadmill-I'm supposed to walk as straight as I can, up right, while placing on hand on the treadmill, but I also jog for fun- its all for balance. Fast beat music wakes you up and gets you ready to work out. Also it distracts you from any pain or discomfort while working out, which pushes you to keep going!!
3. Planning your work out day. There are seven days in a week. At least pick one to exercise your arm for an hour or so. But if you're an over achiever (and we all should be) I suggest to exercise three days a week for about 30-45 minutes. For me I think I'll stretch on the weekdays and exercise on the weekends when I don't have a lot of homework. High school can get in the way sometimes...
4. Reminders. Ok so we all say we're gonna do something but then we just don't. I don't know why but us humans do it all the time hehe. That's why we need reminders. Whatever works for you really. You could put sticky notes around the house, set your phone alarm for your workout time, or have someone remind you. You could even tape an exercise sheet on your mirror that way you see it in the morning. There are lots of thing you can do.
I hope these tips help you. please comment and leave topic ideas you may want me to write about. Have an awesome day!
